Explosion In Decatur, Illinois Leaving People Severely Hurt, Take Science Seriously !!

On Sunday Sept. 10 at 7;11 p.m at the East ADM Plant in Decatur, Illinois. ADM is one of the world’s largest nutrition companies. The explosion and fire injured eight employees and    badly damaged several buildings Sunday evening.

Six of the eight employees were taken by ambulance from the scene with the “extent of injuries unknown” said on Monday morning by Battalion Chief Wade Watson with the Decatur Fire Department.

In a statement early Monday afternoon ADM said that five employees were still hospitalized “receiving treatment for their injuries” and also said that “Our priority is providing our injured colleagues and their families support.”

“The plant where the explosion occurred produces soybean oil and white flake for soybean production, that plant is currently idle and our adjacent corn processing plant is also temporarily down until we can safely resume operations,” said by the ADM.

ADM also stated that “The main fire was extinguished overnight, and we are continuing to closely monitor and asses the extent of the damage to the complex as we investigate the case of the incident.”

This explosion is the second incident at the plant in less than a month, reported by the Decatur Herald & Review. Two Decatur firefighters had to be treated by the hospital after fighting a huge fire at the plant and instantly crews were finding heavy fires spreading from the processing tank to the adjacent tanks.

It is important to be careful a work when its different chemicals involved and you should be careful in school in chemistry as well. All chemicals can start fires if you are not cautious and paying attention to the little things. There are so many hazardous chemicals that can cause eye irritation and damage the skin. Not only can it hurt you but it can hurt the people around you.
