Almost ¾ of us states are still facing teacher shortages. This is believed to be mostly because of student misbehavior, but the low pay doesn’t really help either. 

If you google high school students and teachers having a physical altercation you will find many videos of these occurrences, and when you search what a teacher is supposed to do in this situation they are supposed to simply say stop in a calm demeanor and hope that this works, but if the students continue and actually end up being physical what are the teachers supposed to do? Not defend themselves? This could end up very dangerous since a lot of the time these students are the size of adults and could very well end up hurting these teachers if they don’t defend themselves, so student misbehavior might sound minor but it could be very dangerous.

Since the 2021-2022 school year there has been a 35% growth in teacher shortages according to the updated data provided by Tuan Nguyen, a Kansas State University professor, Nguyen also stated that there were over 30 unfilled positions per 10,000 students. 

Since the demand for teachers is quite a bit higher than the supply, many states have lowered the requirements for teachers resulting in students not getting the best education that they could have. Nguyen also shared that these underqualified teachers leave quicker than teachers who have been trained, saying “They tend to leave the teaching profession at a much

 higher rate,”.

These shortages are not limited to teachers, schools are 

struggling to find a whole range of staff like school bus drivers, instructional aides,substitute teachers, and cafeteria workers. These shortages are really affecting schools and a lot of students’ education, hopefully a solution will be discovered to help with all of these shortages soon, because it’s hard to tell what the future of education looks like as of now.
